This week's assignments

Over the next two weeks, the homework will be relatively simple for the kids considering the amount of testing that they will be doing.

Nevertheless, they must be kept busy, so in addition to the 30 minutes of reading each night, the kids should be doing the following:

We celebrated two birthdays last week but have yet to create cards for the children, so this week the kids should be writing poetry or making birthday cards or a combination of both for Nina and Nelmarie.  We will present these gifts to the girls on Friday.

The kids will also be writing thank you letters to some folks who were kind enough to donate funding to our classroom.  DonorChoose.org is a website where teachers can post grant proposals and individuals can choose to fund specific grants for any amount that they desire.  I was recently awarded a Donors Choose grant that allowed us to add three new iPods to our collection.  As part of the agreement with Donors Choose, we must now write thank you notes to the two donors who made this purchase possible.

Our two donors are:

Robert M. Schiffman Foundation and Law Offices of James F. Aspell, PC.

The kids with even classroom numbers will write letters to the first donor and the odd classroom numbers will write to the second.  These letters should be in final draft form, with accurate spelling and punctuation.  The kids should also not use their last names when signing the letter, for privacy sake.  The letters can include drawings of the iPods and the kids using them as well.  I reviewed all of this with the kids but they may need some reminders.

That’s it for this week’s assignments!  Other than reading of course!
