Like our healthy snack policy, I also extend this belief into birthday
snacks as well, and I ask that you attempt to adhere to this as well. During
the first two weeks of
school, students will begin applying for jobs in the classroom, and one of the
jobs will be Party Coordinator. The Party Coordinator will create a list of
students’ birthdays that are celebrated during the school year. He or she will
also ask the students with summertime birthdays to pick a day for their
Un-Birthday, which we will also celebrate.
We will celebrate all birthdays, regardless of the actual day, on Friday before Town Meeting, limiting the loss of valuable instructional time. This means that if two students share a birthday in the same week, we will celebrate both on Friday. The Birthday Coordinator will be responsible for calling the child’s parents a week or two before a child’s birthday (or Un-birthday) to remind them about the Friday celebration.
If you would like to send in a snack for the celebration, that’s great, but it is not required. As an alternative, your child can choose to award the class with an extra recess instead. Either way we will spend a half-hour on Friday making cards and writing poetry about the birthday boy or girl, and it will be a lot of fun with or without a snack. But if you are planning on sending in a birthday treat, please make it a healthy one.
Please know that I have the best interest of your child at heart when setting these guidelines.
